    Acquiring Updated Database Files

Below you will find an updated listing of the files in the RocFlight database. These files continue to grow as users submit new rocket files and aerodynamic data files. Click on the links below and save them on your computer. These files are packaged using WinZip and you will need this utility in order to extract them into the appropriate directory. Once you have opened the downloaded package within WinZip, simply extract them to the appropriate folder within the RocFlight working directory. This working directory is "C:\ProgramFiles\RocFlight Software Company\RocFlight 3.1\" by default, however you may have specified a different directory during installation. If you wish to update your motor files then you would choose to extract to "C:\ProgramFiles\RocFlight Software Company\RocFlight 3.1\MotorFiles". Windows will ask you if your wish to replace the files in the existing folder with files in the new folder. If you say "yes to all" then all old files with the same name as the new files will be overwritten. The files you defined yourself will be preserved so long as they are not named the same thing as one of the newly extracted files.

Updated motor files can be acquired through ThrustCurve.org. RocFlight can use the ".edx" motor files used by Roger Aerosciences Alt4 program. However many of these files contain inconsistencies, and it is recommended that you download motor files from this site, since many of these inconsistencies have been caught and fixed. The issue is that the thrust vs. time data in many of the ".edx" files available through ThrustCurve.org specify a burn time which is slightly different from the burn time specified separately in the same file. RocFlight catches this difference, and will not proceed with simulations until the two points match.

    Submitting New Database Files

By submitting database files users will help RocFlight become a much more powerful tool. Files of interest for users to submit include rocket files, motor files, and CD data files created for commercially available kits or motors. Simply send an e-mail to file_database@rocflight.com and send your files as an e-mail attachment. Please do not send irrelevant files or files which are not unique from the current updated listings. It is preferred that you package your files with WinZip before sending them, and that the packaged file size not be in excess of 500Kb. All new files will be virus scanned and tested before they become part of the online database. Thanks for your help.

Convert wRASP Files to RocFlight Format

Provided below are two spreadsheet tools that will convert the wRASP rocket and motor database files into the format used by RocFlight. These spreadsheets contain macros which you will need to enable and run upon opening the spreadsheet before the file conversion process can begin. To convert your specific wRASP data file you will need to replace the original data contained in the spreadsheet with your data in a format exactly matching that of the original data. When you the run the macro you will be prompted for a directory in which to store the converted data files. It is recommended that you make this a simple path such as 'C:\wrasp_motor'. After the file conversion process has been completed successfully, you will then need to place these converted files in the appropriate RocFlight working directory folder. For example (assuming you installed RocFlight to the default location), you would place converted motor data files in 'C:\Program Files\RocFlight Software Company\RocFlight 3.1\MotorFiles'.
